After graduating from Cambridge University, Milne joined a magazine as an assistant editor. During this time, he published 18 dramas and 3 novels, however, the real success came from his works intended for children.
His son Christopher was born in 1920; it was then that Milne turned to the world of children. Before the legendary Winnie the Pooh two other works were issued: his poems entitled "When We Were Very Young" in 1924 and - one year before Winnie the Pooh - "A Gallery of Children" in 1925. The latter collection contains 12 short stories, with beautiful illustrations. Illustrator Henriette Willebeek le Mair has contributed to the publication of several children's books.
