94. Mihály Tompa (1817-1868), poet. Autograph inscribed lithograph.
“Rónai Jáczintnak szíves indulattal Hanva, febr. 20. 1868” (since the autograph signature is reproduced below the picture field, his name was not written there). The sheet was produced in 1868 at the Rohn and Grund workshop in Pest based on a drawing by Ferenc Haske. The recipient of the dedication was an extraordinary figure of the time. One of the first domestic representatives of Darwinism, he served as a field chaplain in the National Guard during the War of Independence and, therefore, fled to London in 1850 (he found a printing press and publisher for Széchenyi's "Ein Blick"). After his return home, Queen Elisabeth entrusted him with the patriotic education of her children, with whom he remained in close contact. Rónay also accompanied Archduchess Maria Valeria to Ferenc Deák's funeral.
