9. Jókai Mór: Negyven év visszhangja

Bp., 1884. Franklin-Társulat. (4)+384p. First edition.

With the author’s inscription to his sister on the first leaf: „Eszter nénémnek testvéri szeretettel Jókai Mór."

Eszter Jókay was born on 15 February 1816, as the second child of the family, in Komárom. Mór Jókai’s lifelong, intimate relationship with his sister began at a very young age. In 1837, when their father died, Jókai was inconsolable. He became so ill that his family feared for his life. It was thanks to Eszter’s care and attention that he survived. Considering this, it is no wonder that Jókai sent the volume dedicated here to his sister. At the beginning of the book, the parts concerning Eszter are underlined in pencil, which was almost certainly made by the addressee of the dedication.

Inscribed by the author. Richly gilt, original cloth.
