87. 14th-century liturgical psalm book in Latin.
The item starts with a calendar, which shows the characteristics of Rouen. The codex is decorated with eight initials painted in blue or grey on golden background accompanied by ornaments running to the page edges, ending in – mostly – small leaves, as well as numerous red and blue pen-drawn fleuronnée initials, according to the style of the French book painting of the time. The order of the gilded initials in the finely decorated psalterium – which belong to the days of the liturgical week – begins with the ornate initial “B(eatus vir)” of the first psalm for Sunday. It is followed by the 26th, 38th, 52nd, 68th, 80th and the 97th psalms for the weekdays. The last initial is at the 109th which marks the beginning of the first psalm of the Sunday Vespers.
1 (blank) fly leaf and 105 written, unnumbered leaves on parchment (128 x 92 mm). Later, blind-stamped leather with additional metal ornaments.
Poss.: With ex-libris of Ferenc Széchényi.
