83. (Bongarsius, Jacobus): Rerum Hungaricarum...

... scriptores varii, historici, geographici

Francofurti, 1600. Andreas Wechelius, C. Marnius, J. Aubrius. (16)+631+(35)p.

A collection of texts regarding the history of Hungarians. It primarily contains the text of the Thuróczy Chronicle, but it also includes numerous other historical works besides shorter and longer reports. Perhaps the most exciting part of the work is the Appendix, in which the author collected and presented for the first time the text and drawings of the ancient inscriptions found in Transylvania and published the annals of the church in Lőcse and Brassó. He wanted to encourage the publication of similar historical sources with his appendix, as he did not consider the "Zeitung"-s of the time reliable. In his preface, he writes with admiration about the country's inexhaustible treasures, its richness in ores, healing springs, and caves. Jacques Bongars was a French diplomat, historian and philologist. During his journey from Vienna to Constantinople in 1585, he studied the antique inscriptions found in the former Roman provinces of Pannonia and Dacia.
