The first published work of one of the major figures of twentieth-century Hungarian literature. This early volume of poems by the then-almost-unknown author appeared in his native city in an edition of only 100 copies, which may explain its extreme rarity on the market. The value of the present copy is enhanced by the author’s inscription on the title page: “Szőts Istvánnak, barátsággal Budapesten, 918. VI. 4. Márai Sándor” (To István Szőts, with friendship, Budapest, 4 June 1918. Sándor Márai). The recipient appears several times in the author’s correspondence, though nothing further is known of his person or their relationship.
