One of the most popular Hungarian cookbooks, first published in 1816 and reissued several times during the century. The first two editions bear only the monogram “Cz. I.” According to Trattner’s note in Tudományos Gyűjtemény (Scientific Collection, 1818), this stands for István Czövek, from which it is inferred that István Czifrai (or Czifray) is a fictional person.
