Following the imperial decree of Leopold II, dated 28 January 1790, the Holy Crown was returned to Hungary. Several works were published because of the increased interest including this item. Horányi’s research revealed for the first time that the crown consists of two parts and provided the text of the Byzantine inscription on it.
