Kazinczy became school inspector on 1 November 1786, which position he held until April 1791. During this period, he steadfastly visited his district, where he organised schools and represented the public education reforms of Joseph II. On 28 January 1790, the emperor's decree annulled most of his rulings concerning Hungary. This and his death on 20 February created an extraordinarily confusing and tense situation in education as well. This thesis was born during this period when Kazinczy tried to keep education on a stable course. There is only a single known copy in Hungarian public collections.
