69. Nemes Lampérth József: Tájkép. (Landscape)

Original lithograph. Signed and dated by the artist at the lower right (1920).

The artist, who died tragically young, was an interesting figure of the Hungarian avant-garde. During World War I, he joined Kassák's Ma circle and played an active role during the Commune in Hungary. After its fall, he emigrated to Berlin, where the Gurlitt Gallery organized an exhibition for him, for which he made several lithographs. He wrote this to Edit Hofmann: "However, I can also report on a completely new thing, it should be known that I recently made a lithograph (a self-portrait)... I have another lithograph ready. So I work as much as I can, as much as I bear and as much as I am able". He was proud of both artworks and sent one copy of each to the Museum of Fine Arts. Although his works were brought home thanks to his friend Moholy-Nagy, we found no information on these two pieces appearing at auction.
