The first independent literary magazine in Hungarian represented the ideals of the noble reform movement, and in addition to literature, it also dealt with public issues. It was founded by members of the Kassai Hungarian Society, János Batsányi, Ferenc Kazinczy and Dávid Baróti Szabó. Kazinczy left his editorial role from the second issue (he started his periodical named "Orpheus"). Among the authors and supporters of the paper, we find the names of the most prominent figures of the intellectual life of the time, including György Aranka, Sándor Báróczi, Gábor Dayka, Gedeon Ráday, László Szentjóbi Szabó, Ferenc Verseghy and Benedek Virág. It was intended to be published quarterly, but only eight issues were published in five years due to printing problems and disagreements between the editors. The first issue of the second volume - where Batsányi's perhaps most famous and highly influential poem, "A franciaországi változásokra" was published - was already completed in the summer of 1790, but it was not distributed until 1792. This probably contributed to the journal's closure (the last quarter was published at the beginning of 1793) and later to the prosecution and condemnation of the poet.
From the point of view of literary and cultural history, the value of this significant and precious piece is enhanced by the fact that, according to the inscription on the cover of the first booklet ("Illustr. D. Seniori Gedeoni L. Baroni de Ráda"), it enriched the collection of one of the magazine's founders, Gedeon Ráday. Original paper. Uncut. Spine slightly damaged.
