The work is one of the most famous pieces of second-wave religious polemical literature. An important moment in this struggle, which flared up again in the 1660s, was the recatholisation of Zsófia Báthori and the Rákóczis, thus shifting the focus of the debates to the north-eastern part of the country (Kassa, Sárospatak). The style of the documents is characteristic of Pázmány's era, with a sarcastic, personal tone that sometimes degenerates into cursing, but is all the more crude, of much lower quality, and often verging on obscenity. The prominent figures on the Catholic side were the Jesuits Mátyás Sámbár and Imre Kis, while among the Protestants, István Czeglédi and János Pósaházi can be mentioned alongside Matkó. The author was a Reformed pastor, and his work was a response to Sámbár's work entitled "A' Három Idvösséges kérdésre, a' Luther és Calvinista Tanítók mint felelnek?" (Kassa 1667). The title page features a woodcut depicting two crossed miner's pickaxes encircled by a laurel wreath, with a Jesuit kneading yellow dumplings on a table between two miners with pickaxes. One miner encourages him with the words, "Knead, Sámbár," while the other pounds him with his pickaxe, saying, "I'll beat you, knead." Two variants are described in the RMNy, which were produced with a completely different type of type setting from the "Lll" sheet. Our piece is one of the variants marked with a "B" there.
Restored contemporary leather. Title page and final leaf restored (the latter with a small loss of text in the upper corner).
