The periodical was founded by Attila József together with Pál Ignotus and Ferenc Fejtő. It followed a socialist and bourgeois-radical orientation, conceived partly as a counterweight to the allegedly overly liberal tone of Nyugat. After the poet’s death, Zoltán Gáspár, Bertalan Hatvany, and Zsigmond Remenyik also joined the editorial work. The appended publications are described in the bibliography as continuations of the journal, including the Szép Szó Almanach of 1945.
