First published in 1660, Petthő’s chronicle became one of the most widely read Hungarian historical works. Of particular importance in this sammelband is the third volume, in which appear for the first time in Hungarian King St Stephen’s Admonitions, translated by Spangár. Bibliographically notable is the Magyarok Bibliotekája (Library of the Hungarians), Spangár’s Hungarian rendering of Czvittinger Dávid’s Latin text, augmented with the catalogue of writers compiled by Márton Szentiványi. The immense popularity of the work is shown by the many reprints throughout the 18th century.
