434. Archduke Ernst Habsburg (1553–1595), Governor-General.

434. Archduke Ernst Habsburg (1553–1595), Governor-General.

Autograph signed document.

It transcribes and recognises as valid the will of the late Anna Fodor, which was presented to him on behalf of Anna's second husband, Ferenc Szegedi. The Hungarian-language will, which according to the description was confirmed with two ring seals and the signature of the clerk of Nagybánya, was made by the sick woman on November 9, 1583, before Lukács Mészáros, judge of Nagybánya, and József Pécsy, juror. In her last will and testament, Anna Fodor disposed of her own property and that of her first husband, Simon Nagy (wines, clothes, cash), and appointed a guardian for her daughter Erzsébet, born from her first marriage. The document contains the full text of the will, in beautiful, archaic Hungarian language.

The Archduke was in charge of the Hungarian Chancellery in Vienna, so he's the one who issued the document.

Document in vellum with intact hanging seal.

Dated: Vienna, 24 September 1594.
