A complete series of exceptionally rare military history publications. The publisher used Baumgärtner's Leipzig periodical entitled "Sammlung von Anekdoten und Charakterzügen auch Relationen von Schlachten und Gefechten aus merkwürdigen Kriegen" as a model. Not only did he follow its layout, but he also copied several texts from it. By presenting the heroic deeds of the battles against Napoleon, he sought to strengthen imperial patriotism with the support of the court. Hartleben devoted the sixth booklet almost entirely to the Hungarian noble rebels. István Horvát translated it and published it under the title "A' magyar rendes katonaságnak és felkelő nemes seregnek néhány vitéz és ditső tette az 1809-dik Esztendei háborúban" (see lot 408). The value of the work is further enhanced by the fact that each piece begins with a beautiful, colored copperplate engraving depicting a heroic deed. Their titles are:
1. Der Sturm auf Aspern am 21-ten Mai 1809.
2. Edle Handlung eines oesterr. Uhlanen in Leipzig.
3. Vertheidigung des Passes bei Ebersberg am 3-e May 1809.
4. Schwarzenberg Uhlanen erobern eine verlohrne Batterie bei Gerasdorf wieder.
5. Nicht unsere Wunden sind es warum wir klagen, aber unsere Kameraden kämpfen noch und wir können ihnen nicht beistehen.
6. Tapferer Angriff des Insurrections-Rittmeisters v. Olgyay mit 50 Mann Insurgenten auf 400 Franzosen bey Takácsi.
7. Heldentod des Hauptmann Hensel und Hauptmann Kupka bey Vertheidigung des Forts von Thalavai bey Malborghetto d. 17 May 1809.
The work is not mentioned in the online catalogue of the National Library, and to our knowledge, only one volume has appeared at auction in the past half-century.
The complete series in a paper cover. Uncut copies. The bottom corners of the last issue have been restored (this also affects the frame decoration on the back cover).
