Andrássy already assumed a political role during the Hungarian reform era (Széchenyi also noticed his talent). Later, he received a diplomatic mandate from the Szemere government. After the fall of the Hungarian War of Independence, he was sentenced to death in absentia, which is why he was nicknamed „le beau pendu” (beautiful hanged) by the ladies of Paris. Due to his aptitude and talent, Ferenc Deák’s proposal that the monarch entrust him with the formation of a government met with the undivided approval of Hungarian political public life.
