Draft constitution for an independent Serbian voivodeship to be established from the southern regions of the Kingdom of Hungary inhabited by Serbs. The Serbian National Committee of Karlóca, formed on 13 May 1848 under Archbishop Josip Rajačić, opposed the Hungarian Revolution from the outset, supported by both the Viennese court and the Serbian principality. One of its first acts toward creating a separate Serbian voivodeship was to form a constitutional commission. At the Patriarch’s insistence, the Serbian prince delegated two members, one of them the compiler of this volume, former Minister of Justice to Prince Miloš Obrenović. The final text of the constitution was completed on 27 April 1849.
