34. (Esterházy) Eszterházi Miklós, gróf: A magyar-országi palatinusnak...
... ~nak, Rákóczi György erdélyi fejedelemnek írt egy-néhány intő leveleinek igaz párja
Győrött, 1756. Streibig Gergely János. 120p.
“It is madness to do nothing when we cannot do everything.” The author, holder of the highest European honour of the age, the Order of the Golden Fleece, lived true to this famous maxim. Although a staunch Habsburg loyalist, he always placed the interests of his homeland first. His admonitory letters to Prince György I Rákóczi were published in 1644 in Latin (Vienna) and in Hungarian (Pozsony). As this eighteenth-century edition shows, his ideas remained relevant more than a century later.
Contemporary half leather, with marbled endpapers. Spine richly gilt.
