(Veszprém) Dicshalom, 1813. (Számmer Klára ny.) 1pl(s).+XIII+(1)+102+(4)p.

One of the most important works of the polemic that became a symbol of the language reform debate. The controversy began with Kazinczy’s Tövisek és virágok (Thorns and Flowers). Somogyi’s reply was based on an earlier manuscript by József Szentgyörgyi, mocking the excesses of the language reformers, which Somogyi expanded with his own sharp criticisms of Kazinczy. In response, Kölcsey and Pál Szemere wrote their Felelet (Reply), in an even harsher, satirical tone. The famous frontispiece shows Kazinczy as a crowned, grotesque figure riding a donkey toward Parnassus. One of the most famous dedications in Hungarian literature, with an anagram of Kazinczy's name, reads: “Zafyr Czenczinek, kedves cousinémnek, miveltt lelkű onkelem’ jó leányának” (To Zafyr Czenczinek, my dear cousin, the good daughter of my kind-hearted uncle).

Signed, white leather with red spine. The covers decorated with leather inlays inspired by the engraved vignette on the title page, depicting Mount Parnassus. In hardpaper case.
