30. (Bethlen Elek): Ansichten von Siebenbürgen

(Pest), 1818. n.p. 1pl(s). (lithographed title page)+77+(1)p.

A rare regional-historical work. After his studies at the University of Göttingen, Bethlen served in 1809–1810 as aide-de-camp to Archduke Miksa, commander-in-chief of the Transylvanian noble levies. In 1835 he became councillor to the Royal Gubernium of Transylvania. A passionate scholar of history and economics, he devoted particular attention to the past and present of Transylvania. Besides his native tongue, he spoke Latin, German, French, Italian, and Romanian. He wrote his published works in German rather than Hungarian in order to make his homeland better known abroad.

Contemporary paper.
