The first complete Hungarian translation of the Qur’an. The translators used Christian Reineck’s 1721 Leipzig edition, itself based on Ludovicus Maraccius’s late 17th-century Latin version.
There were only two earlier Hungarian works to be mentioned as precedents. The first was Kristóf Peicich’s book published in 1717, the second Ferenc Hunyadi’s Keresztyén archivarius (1794), which alongside classical authors also included Qur’anic passages that could be linked to the Bible.
Signed, green leather, with yellow title in arabesque panel on spine. Both covers decorated with leather inlays featuring Islamic-style floral motifs. In hardpaper case.
