21. Bessenyei Sándor (ford.): Elvesztett Paraditsom...

... Milton által. Fordította Frantziából ~. I-II. darab.

Kassánn, 1796. Ellinger János. (32)+366p.; 388p.

Sándor Bessenyei is a forgotten figure in Hungarian literary history. He pursued a career similar to that of his younger brother, György: both were bodyguards in Vienna and poets at the same time. However, it cannot be denied that his oeuvre falls short of György’s scope.

This item is his most important work: a prose translation of Milton’s “Paradise Lost” (translated from French). Its exciting feature is the poem at the beginning of the second volume (A' Milton' Elveszett Paraditsomáról) attributed to Mihály Csokonai Vitéz by Ferenc Szilágyi literary historian.
