191. Vizer (István) Stephanus: Mappa geographica...
... almae dioecesis Weszprimiensis per inclytos comitatus Weszprim. Simigh. et Zala... Anno MDCCCXLI Opera ~...
Pestini, 1841. Lith. J. Watzinger
Lithographed map of the Diocese of Veszprém. The map was prepared by István Vizer, chief engineer of the diocese, on behalf of Bishop József Kopácsy. What makes this piece, which follows the deanery district division, particularly valuable is that the bishopric included the entire area of the Balaton coast. Pál Hrenkó praises it in his study entitled "Krieger Sámuel 1766. évi Balaton-térképe" (Krieger Sámuel's 1766 map of Balaton) (Geodézia és kartográfia, 1977) as follows: "Vizer worked for ten years on this large-scale map depicting the diocese of Veszprém, which was based on the principles of astronomy and trigonometry as well as the stereographic system. He received great international recognition for it. The French Geographical Society rewarded him with praise; the certificate of honour was signed by President Jomard himself (later the namesake of the Jomard Prize)." It is extremely rare, and we have found no trace of it appearing at auction.
