185. Jansson, Jan: Ischia Isola olim Aenaria

A beautifully hand-coloured copperplate map of the island of Ischia, with a small inset of Elba (Elba Isola, olim Ilua) in the lower left corner. The cartographic depiction of Ischia draws on Cartaro’s work. Three elaborately decorated cartouches frame the titles and scale, while sailing ships, sea monsters, and wind roses embellish the surrounding seas. The reverse side is blank, suggesting that the sheet was probably issued separately or as part of a composite atlas before subsequent atlas editions.
