The work of Miklós Oláh, Archbishop of Esztergom, compiled for the Nagyszombat Synod, in addition to formulating the truths of faith, also intended to guide on practical issues of church life. The assembly held in April 1560 tried to implement the resolutions of the Tridentinum aimed at the renewal of the church and successful action against the Reformation into Hungarian practice.

Miklós Oláh was one of the most significant Hungarian humanist priests and writers. He played an important role in the country's political and cultural life after Mohács. He advocated the creation of schools, supported the studies of his protégés —for example, János Zsámboky or Miklós Istvánffy—at foreign universities, was in lively contact with European humanist circles and amassed a substantial library.

The work was first published in Vienna in the previous year.

Richly gilt, slightly worn, 19th-century leather.
