178. de L’Isle, Guillaume: Carte du Mexique et de la Floride...
... des Terres Angloises et des Isles Antilles du Cours et des Environs de la Riviere Mississipi…
Paris, between 1707-1745.
Map of the Gulf of Mexico depicting the area from the Great Lakes to the northern coastline of South America. This (third state) landmark map by Guillaume de L’Isle represents the most accurate cartography of the beginning of the 18th century. The chart is up to date for the period with the most recent explorations based on the accounts of the survivors of the La Salle expedition as well as the geographical data and manuscript sketches from the reports of Spanish missionaries. The large, finely decorated cartouche contains the title and the publisher imprint (the year of the publication is 1703, the date of the first issue), and in the upper left corner a floral frame is shown surrounding the bar scales.
Dimensions: 475 × 640 (520 × 665) mm. Original outline coloured. The side margins are slightly off; the upper one is more harshly cropped (the map field is not affected). With some light stains.
Starting price: 200 000 Ft
