With the support of Ádám Herepei, the Hungarian Society of Nagyenyed was founded on October 18, 1791 (according to other sources, on September 7). From 1790, Herepei taught history, ancient literature and poetics in Enye. His previous students were Farkas Bolyai and Sándor Körösi Csoma, among others. The latter turned to the research of Hungarian prehistory because of his influence.
The purpose of the student-only society was to develop the language and rhetorical skills of the members. Their work resulted in this anthology, the publication of which was supported by Count Pál Torotzkai, who came from a wealthy family. The volume also contains the first Hungarian translation of two Molière-comedies. No data has survived about the later literary work of the 35 members (except two occasional poets). Zsuzsanna Márta Pintér's study, "Drama Translations of Transylvanian Student Associations," describes the organization's history in more detail.
