The first Hungarian horse race was held in 1827. In the following years, the developing Hungarian horse racing sport received a lot of disparaging criticism from abroad. This work was written in response to these criticisms, with particular reference to those expressed by Prince Marmont in his work Reise durch Ungarn, Siebenbürgen (Journey through Hungary and Transylvania).
