161. Blaeu, Willem Janszoon: Transylvania. Sibenburgen.

The first edition of the copper-engraved map of Transylvania by Willem Janszoon Blaeu, without a text on the verso and meridian-degree scale. The sheet was later published in the “Atlas Novus” and the “Atlas Maior”, but with text. In addition to the topographic and hydrographic elements, the engraver illustrated his work with depictions of forests as well as a title cartouche surrounded by allegorical female figures and the “dragon-toothed” coat of arms of the Báthory family.
