158. Pál Kovács (1808–1886), physician, writer.

Autograph letter to Ignác Zsoldos, lawyer, addressed "Kedves Náczim!" (My Dear Náci!).

The addressee, a judge at the Pest Commercial Court, had turned to his friend with abdominal complaints. This medically very exciting letter essentially contains professional advice. At the beginning he suggests not trusting conventional medicine: "Turn to homoeopathy completely and decisively; it suits your organism better than the snatching, violent allopathy." He prescribes three remedies and also recommends a pharmacy where they can be obtained: "it is easier to have them sent, and at Nagy Kristóf there is a regular homoeopathic pharmacy." This was the Szent Kristóf pharmacy at today’s Váci Street 6, which had borne the name since 1833 after the statue above it. He also provides dietary advice. On the address page he lists the three prescriptions themselves. Dr. Pál Kovács, physician, took an active part in literary life, being a driving force of Győr’s cultural scene in the Reform Era. He was one of the pioneers of homoeopathy in Hungary.
