Lötsen, 1674. Brever Samuel. (166)p.
The author, a moral philosopher, was hereditary lord of Szepesföld, lord lieutenant of Bereg County, captain-general of Szatmár and later of Kassa, and from 1687 royal judge of Hungary. He was also the father of twenty-seven children by his three wives. In his only known literary work in Hungarian, he summarised the principles of virtuous life in fifty chapters. Its Latin source was the courtly ethical treatise “Philosophia politica”, published at Kassa in the same year (RMNy 3956). To our knowledge, this copy is the only example to have appeared at auction during the past half century.
