Perhaps the most controversial work of Széchenyi, Kossuth responded in the same year with his piece entitled “Felelet. Many prominent politicians of the time, such as Wesselényi, Deák, and József Eötvös, spoke out in support of Kossuth, and even András Fáy, who was considered a staunch supporter of Széchenyi, criticised his mentor for this.
