133. Collection of 5 documents related to Károly Hieronymi...

... (1835-1911), Minister of the Interior.

Hieronymi was an interesting and important figure in the era of dualism, and was probably one of the representatives who held the most public offices. He became ministerial secretary in the Ministry of Public Works and Transport during the Andrássy government. In 1874, as deputy state secretary, he was entrusted with the management of the ministry's most important affairs. He left public service for a time, but in 1892 he first became president of the State Audit Office, then on 19 November he accepted the post of Minister of the Interior in the Wekerle cabinet, remaining in office until the government was dismissed (15 January 1895). Our collection relates to this period. He later became a minister on two further occasions: he held the portfolio of trade in the first cabinet of István Tisza and then in the second cabinet of Khuen-Héderváry, until his unexpected death in May 1911.
