The narrative in poetic form describes the great fire of Pest in 1794, during which about 1,000 houses burned down as a hedge chimney caught fire. The author was a poet and a lawyer. Previously, he worked as the secretary of Count János Fekete of Galanta. Kazinczy despised his poetry, but Csokonai respected him as a friend. He opposed the forced language reform, referring to the abundance of expressive words of the common people.
