120. Imre Thököly (1657-1705), Prince of Upper Hungary.

... Autograph signed letter in Latin to the city council of Selmecbánya.

He instructs the city to send him money through the commissar sent there to support the anti-Habsburg fight.

Thököly is one of the most tragic figures in Hungarian history. As one of the leaders of the Kuruc insurrection, we could even consider him a national hero, but the fact that he fought on the Turkish side even when the whole Europe was celebrating the united Christian troops, which pushed the Ottoman armies out of the country, confuses his assessment. As a sad ending, he even took part in the Battle of Zenta, covering those retreating after the defeat. At the time of the birth of the letter, he was fighting against Lieutenant General Schultz achieving partial success in North-East Hungary. However, he had to gradually retreat from September.

Although he was an active participant in the events of the time for a relatively long period, his manuscripts are rarely found due to the problematic circumstances full of battles. Thus, these can be a real treasure for those interested in Hungarian history.
