First edition of the work, regarded as the first original Hungarian novel. The Piarist author completed the manuscript in 1786, but publication was delayed due to censorship. Set in the Árpád era, the novel conveyed a contemporary message opposing the Germanization policy of the court. It became a major success, particularly among female readers, leading to two further editions (1791, 1805).
