Verancsics was a renowned European scholar of his time, a historian and diplomat, and a correspondent of Melanchthon and Erasmus of Rotterdam. Interestingly, the engraver of the sheet, like the archpriest, was a native of Sebenico (now Šibenik) in Dalmatia. His professional career is mainly linked to Venice, but he also worked at the courts of Vienna and Prague.
