Mitterpacher was the first professor appointed to the chair of agriculture established at the University of Buda. His comprehensive agricultural treatise first appeared between 1779 and 1794; the present enlarged and revised edition is supplemented by a biography of the author written by István Schönwisner. The second volume contains a separate section devoted to viticulture, while the third volume, dealing with the processing of agricultural products, includes a chapter on winemaking. Its international popularity is demonstrated by the appearance of three Italian editions within a short period (1784, 1794, 1795).
