The first complete Hungarian Catholic Bible. His translator was the Jesuit monk György Káldi. At the request of Péter Pázmány, he began work in 1605. He completed his manuscript in two years. The final version was published with the support of Pázmány, Gábor Bethlen and the Viennese court. Its influence on the Hungarian language can be compared to Károlyi's translation. The decorative title page is known in two versions. Our copy is the more common "B" variant.
18th-century leather with richly gilt, slightly damaged spine. The cropped frontispiece is paper-backed. Some leaves waterstained. First two leaves restored (text affected).
