He expresses the hope that the excursion has eased his friend’s “painful memories”, referring to the death of Mednyánszky’s wife, Anne Birkbeck, on 15 March. He is pleased to hear that “the enthusiastic Hungarian ladies” commemorated her. He asks that the enclosed portrait be delivered to Countess “R. Bethlen”.
