326. Vályi-Nagy Ferencz: Homér’ Íliásza.
... Fordította ~. I-II. kötet.
Sáros-Patakon, 1821. Nádaskay András ny. VIII+346p.; 378p.
The translator was a teacher at the college in Patak. Due to his death in 1820, he could not be a part of the first Hungarian plagiarism trial, which was triggered by this work. As a precursor to this, in 1816, Kölcsey sent the parts of the work he had already translated to his friend Pál Szemere, who gave them to Kazinczy. He shared these with Vályi Nagy, who incorporated some lines into his text without changes and other parts with a slight revision. Moreover, Kazinczy, as the publisher, did not mention Kölcsey's name in the preface. The author of the Anthem asked Pál Szemere to compare the texts, who did so, doing justice to his friend. With that, Kölcsey closed the case and was ready to reconcile with Kazinczy. He wrote about it like this: „Kezemet nyújtom engesztelésre; s literátori pályánk első bajnokáért kevesebbet tennem nem lehet” (I give my hand in atonement; and I cannot do less for the first champion of our literary career).
