A translation of the work of a Roman writer who lived in the 2nd century, describing the history of the empire from Romulus to Emperor Trajan. Together with its additions, it is the first systematic work in Hungarian that also covers Roman history before Caesar, and at the same time it was the foundation for the educational reforms carried out in the second half of the 18th century. Márton Benkő, rector of the Reformed College in Marosvásárhely and later a teacher in Nagyenyed, provided an extensive overview of world history in his recommendation. His conception of history combines the so-called biological-organic and four-empire ideas. The former is of ancient origin and cyclical in nature, with Florus being its most significant ancient representative. Its essence is that it compares the course of history and the functioning of the state to a living being. The latter, on the other hand, is based on a biblical background, following the Church Fathers, according to the idea developed by Protestant thinkers Luther, Melanchthon, Zwingli and Comenius, that history progresses towards the end of the world through four empires: the Assyrian-Babylonian, the Persian, the Alexander the Great and the Roman.
