Publisher’s compilation. István Bocskai, chief magistrate of Zemplén County, participated in Wesselényi's organisation as commander-in-chief of the armed rebellion in Upper Hungary. In 1670, he fled to Transylvania, where he died on 24 December 1672. The Reformed preachers who delivered the funeral sermons were themselves forced to flee as a result of political pressure and religious persecution. Particularly interesting items in the collection are the detailed, 10-page history of the Bocskai family (János Pósaházi: Genealogy of the Honourable Bocskai Family...) and Sámuel Diószegi's Short Conversation, written in rhyming prose. Our copy contains possessor inscriptions, as well as 18th-century inscriptions relating to the Bocskai family on the back cover and the inside of the binding board. A fragmentary copy of this extremely rare book appeared at auction on a single occasion.
