The senior officer was a hero of the wars against the Turks and one of the most successful Austrian commanders in the Rákóczi War of Independence. He was appointed commander-in-chief of the imperial forces on several occasions and led the greatest battle of the war of independence, the Battle of Trencsén, which ended in Austrian victory. Although his military talent was undeniable, his cruelty made him unacceptable. At the time the document was written, he was in command of military operations in Upper Hungary.
