118. Mátyás Rákosi (1892–1971), Prime Minister of Hungary.

... Autograph signed diploma accompanying a Kossuth Prize.

The award was granted to the chemist Dr János Proszt. Although Rákosi had long been a central figure in the construction of the communist dictatorship, he held the office of Prime Minister for only a single year. Documents of this kind are rare in themselves, and the great majority bear only facsimile signatures. Genuine autograph signatures appear exclusively on important documents, such as the Kossuth Prize, one of the period's highest distinctions.
